EGIM I Newsletter I Current Situation in Railtraffic I Nr. 18_2026

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

as a matter of routine, we would like to provide you with an overview of current and upcoming events within our rail operations. This includes information from the area of the network operator as well as information from the environment of the connected seaport terminals.

  • Loading delays of up to 6 hours at the HHLA CTA Terminal
  • Loading delays of up to 4 hours at the HHLA Burchardkai Terminal
  • Loading delays of up to 6 hours at EUROGATE Bremerhaven
  • The dispositive inflow control in Hamburg are in effect since March 10, 2026. Some trains are being denied entry into the Hamburg rail network, leading to further delays. In some cases, trains are already being turned back as early as Hanover.
  • Overloaded port infrastructure in Hamburg, resulting in shunting delays
  • Rail crane capacity is being expanded at the HHLA CTA Terminal. As a result, some tracks are subject to a length restriction of 670 meters. This leads to increased shunting requirements in order to maintain full train capacity. Consequently, the already heavily strained port infrastructure will face additional strain. The restrictions were recently extended until May 1, 2026.
  • Various construction sites in the Central Regional Area are causing significant delays due to detours and traffic congestion. Delays averaging 3–4 hours are expected, particularly between Göttingen and Aschaffenburg/Würzburg.
  • The line between Bad Naunheim and Butzbach has been closed since 4:09 p.m. due to a locomotive malfunction; the disruption is expected to end on the evening of April 23, 2026.
  • Point failure in Ebersbach from April 23, 2026, 2:49 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Point failure in Fulda from April 22, 2026, 5:32 p.m. to April 23, 2026, 12:05 p.m.
  • Signal failure between Misburg and Lehrte West since April 23, 2026, 8:00 a.m.; not yet resolved.
  • Signal failure near Diepholz from April 23, 2026, 7:00 a.m. to 10:29 a.m.
  • track misalignment between Nevinghof and Münster-Sprakel from April 22, 2026, at 11:16 a.m. to April 23, 2026, at 6:42 a.m. Trains were only permitted to travel through this section at 70 km/h after receiving prior clearance.
  • All of the factors mentioned have a very negative impact on our train services to and from the seaports and their punctuality.
  • For example, construction sites in Braunschweig and Salzwedel, as well as severe congestion on the tracks in the Magdeburg/Leipzig area, have resulted in one of our trains taking 17 hours to complete a 7-hour journey.

Due to the circumstances, delays continue to occur at the seaport and inland terminals. These delays have a significant impact on the stability and punctuality of our network. We are making daily efforts to minimize the impact on your bookings as much as possible. Our scheduling department will continue to inform you of any affected bookings on a case-by-case basis. In order to avoid incorrect tours, please check the availability of the loading units before acceptance inland or at the seaport and take our advice notes and order-related information into account.

  • Long-term construction work between Nuremberg – Regensburg – Passau from February 6, 2026 to December 15, 2026. During this period, there will be two different diversions with adjusted train lengths:
    • February 6 – June 12 -> 620 m via Landshut / Plattling -> 23 cars
    • June 12 – July 11 -> 590 m via Salzburg -> 22 cars
    • July 12 – September 16 -> 620 m via Landshut/Plattling -> 23 cars
    • September 16 – timetable change -> 590 m via Salzburg -> 22 cars
  • Due to the longer distance and increased utilization of the alternative routes, delays are to be expected. Further restrictions cannot yet be fully predicted. We will inform you separately about these. This mainly affects our services to Hungary.

For the area of seaport terminals, we would like to point out that your cooperation as a potential terminal customer is also urgently desired.

With regard to deadlines, please refer to our General Terms and Conditions. Delivery deadlines or fixed dates cannot be guaranteed. These presuppose unhindered transport conditions on rail and road.
