In the coming weeks, a new step in the digitalization of German seaports will be implemented: the introduction of the Secure Release Order (SRO). Today, we’d like to inform you about the updated rollout schedule and our next steps.
Updated SRO Rollout Schedule
The introduction of the SRO will take place in phases:
- From October 1, 2025: Initial implementation with shipping lines.
- Until November 2, 2025: The current PIN-based process remains valid for all other parties involved.
- From November 3, 2025: SRO becomes mandatory for all stakeholders, starting with two smaller terminals.
- From November 17, 2025: Gradual rollout to all remaining terminals.

Impact and next Steps
In our newsletter dated August 28, 2025, we announced the introduction of an SRO surcharge with effect from October 1, 2025. This surcharge is intended to partially cover the additional costs incurred by the new process.
The introduction of this surcharge will be postponed until further notice.
As the implementation will now take place in stages, we will have the opportunity to observe and evaluate the actual operation more closely at first.
