EGIM I Newsletter I Current Situation in Railtraffic I Nr. 16_2026

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

as a matter of routine, we would like to provide you with an overview of current and upcoming events within our rail operations. This includes information from the area of the network operator as well as information from the environment of the connected seaport terminals.

  • A loading bridge for rail shipments is out of service. Repairs are scheduled to begin as soon as the storm subsides. The repair is currently expected to take 14 days. As a result, no special slots will be allocated and no additional volumes will be approved. This has a direct impact on the restrictions we reported yesterday.
  • Power outage at the HHLA Burchardkai Terminal; the cause appears to be outside the terminal. It is currently unknown when this will be resolved or what the exact consequences will be. A switch malfunction resulting from the power outage at the HHLA Burchardkai Terminal; the duration of the repair work is not yet known. As a result, trains cannot be positioned in their scheduled slots. A scheduled train had to leave the port infrastructure and be parked in the “Alte Süderelbe”
  • Follow-up delays due to the train collision between Hanau and Gelnhausen that we reported on yesterday: The disruption has not yet been resolved. At present, trains are either being rerouted or are operating on a single track at very slow speeds on the affected section of the line.
  • The events mentioned will result in subsequent delays that will last for several more days. Some trains have already had to divert to alternative terminals. As noted above, the next available handling at the HHLA Burchardkai Terminal would not have been possible for another 14 days. Depending on how the situation develops, this may also be the only option for the next few days to transport the cargo units to their destinations.
  • The dispositive inflow control in Hamburg has been in effect since March 10, 2026. Trains are sometimes denied entry into the Hamburg rail network, leading to further delays.
  • The dispositive inflow control in Bremerhaven has been in effect since March 14, 2026. Trains are sometimes denied entry into the Bremerhaven infrastructure, leading to further train delays.

Due to the circumstances, delays continue to occur at the seaport and inland terminals. These delays have a significant impact on the stability and punctuality of our network. We are making daily efforts to minimize the impact on your bookings as much as possible. Our scheduling department will continue to inform you of any affected bookings on a case-by-case basis. In order to avoid incorrect tours, please check the availability of the loading units before acceptance inland or at the seaport and take our advice notes and order-related information into account.

  • Long-term construction work between Nuremberg – Regensburg – Passau from February 6, 2026 to December 15, 2026. During this period, there will be two different diversions with adjusted train lengths:
    • February 6 – June 12 -> 620 m via Landshut / Plattling -> 23 cars
    • June 12 – July 11 -> 590 m via Salzburg -> 22 cars
    • July 12 – September 16 -> 620 m via Landshut/Plattling -> 23 cars
    • September 16 – timetable change -> 590 m via Salzburg -> 22 cars
  • Due to the longer distance and increased utilization of the alternative routes, delays are to be expected. Further restrictions cannot yet be fully predicted. We will inform you separately about these. This mainly affects our services to Hungary.

For the area of seaport terminals, we would like to point out that your cooperation as a potential terminal customer is also urgently desired.
