EGIM I Newsletter I Current Situation in Railtraffic I No. 21_2025

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

as a matter of routine, we would like to provide you with an overview of current and upcoming events within our rail operations. This includes information from the area of the network operator as well as information from the environment of the connected seaport terminals.

  • Demonstration in the Waltershofer Brücken area. This has resulted in the complete closure of the railway access road to the HHLA Terminal Burchardkai. According to press reports, the demonstrators have chained themselves to the tracks. As a result, there have been no shunting movements in the Waltershof and Mühlenwerder area since around 8:00 a.m.
  • Road access to and from the HHLA Terminal Burchardkai and EUROGATE is also severely restricted and is being regulated by the police.
  • The current impact is that trains are being refused entry to Hamburg and have to be parked outside the city. Fully loaded import trains cannot depart. Port transfers are also being severely hampered.
  • This means that loading deadlines cannot be guaranteed. Trains, and thus also containers, may have to be routed to other terminals, e.g., CTA/KTH. Unfortunately, we will have to pass on the cost of the diversion to the booked port terminal, as well as the resulting storage fees and handling/extra handling charges.
  • The same applies to import bookings.
  • To make matters worse, there was no night shift at the HHLA Terminal Burchardkai last night, which meant that no trains were loaded or unloaded. We have been able to compensate for this so far, but the above circumstances will have a negative impact on our entire network. Massive delays and cancellations are to be expected, which will continue to affect operations into next week. Unfortunately, the obstacles already reported, such as construction sites on the German rail network, remain in place.

Due to the circumstances, delays continue to occur at the seaport and inland terminals. These delays have a significant impact on the stability and punctuality of our network. We are making daily efforts to minimize the impact on your bookings as much as possible. Our scheduling department will continue to inform you of any affected bookings on a case-by-case basis. In order to avoid incorrect tours, please check the availability of the loading units before acceptance inland or at the seaport and take our advice notes and order-related information into account.

  • Long-term construction work between Nuremberg, Regensburg, and Passau from February 6, 2026, to December 15, 2026. During this period, there will be various diversions with different effects. Trains can only run with 20 carriages on the diversion via Salzburg and with 18 carriages on the diversion via Plattling/Landshut. Delays are to be expected due to the longer distance and increased utilization of the alternative routes. Further restrictions cannot yet be fully predicted. We will inform you separately about these. This mainly affects our services to Hungary.

For the area of seaport terminals, we would like to point out that your cooperation as a potential terminal customer is also urgently desired.

With regard to deadlines, please refer to our General Terms and Conditions. Delivery deadlines or fixed dates cannot be guaranteed. These presuppose unhindered transport conditions on rail and road.
