EGIM I Newsletter I Current Situation in Railtraffic I No. 17_2025

Dear Ladies and Gentleman

As a matter of routine, we would like to provide you with an overview of current and upcoming events within our rail operations. This includes information from the area of the network operator as well as information from the environment of the connected seaport terminals.

  • On Monday morning, several hours of ad hoc construction work on a faulty switch between Deutsch-Evern and Lüneburg. The effects continued until yesterday.
  • Introduction of dispositive inflow control in Bremerhaven since 8:55 a.m. on September 27, 2025
  • Complete closure in the Bremerhaven area from midnight to 4:00 a.m., resulting in delayed arrival of trains in Bremerhaven; in addition, loaded trains were unable to depart.
  • Overhead line fault between Lehrte and Burgdorf, starting at 11:10 p.m. on September 30, repaired at 4:31 a.m. on October 1. During this period, all trains were diverted, which also led to congestion.
  • Yesterday afternoon, people were on the tracks between Hanover and Sarstedt, all trains had to stop and were initially only allowed to proceed on sight after clearance. This also caused several trains to back up.
  • Since September 2 and expected to last until December 12, 2025, the bridge between Hanover-Wülfel and Hanover-Linden is closed. This closure is causing a diversion via Hildesheim-Lehrte.
  • This led to congestion on the lines throughout the northern area. As a result, the diversion routes were also congested, affecting our entire network.
  • Yesterday, a train derailed in the Falkenberg area, causing the line to be closed for several hours with no diversion options.

Due to the circumstances, delays continue to occur at the seaport and inland terminals. These delays have a significant impact on the stability and punctuality of our network. We are making daily efforts to minimize the impact on your bookings as much as possible. Our scheduling department will continue to inform you of any affected bookings on a case-by-case basis. In order to avoid incorrect tours, please check the availability of the loading units before acceptance inland or at the seaport and take our advice notes and order-related information into account.

  • Planned maintenance work at HHLA Terminal CTA from October 8, 7:00 a.m. to October 9, 2025, 5:00 p.m. This will result in a track length restriction of 550 m.

The following closures are included in our public holiday schedule for German Unity Day:

  • Replacement construction of the Finkenwerder Bridge from October 3, 2025, to October 6, 2025, as well as construction work between Bremen and Bremerhaven from October 2, 2025, at 7:00 a.m. to October 6, 2025, at 8:00 a.m.
  • Long-term construction work between Nuremberg, Regensburg, and Passau from February 6, 2025, to December 15, 2026. During this period, there will be various diversions with different effects. Trains can only run with 20 carriages on the diversion via Salzburg and with 18 carriages on the diversion via Plattling/Landshut. Delays are to be expected due to the longer distance and increased utilization of the alternative routes. Further restrictions cannot yet be fully predicted. We will inform you separately about these. This mainly affects our services to Hungary.

For the area of seaport terminals, we would like to point out that your cooperation as a potential terminal customer is also urgently desired.
