EGIM I Newsletter I Current Situation in Railtraffic I No. 02_2026

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

as a matter of routine, we would like to provide you with an overview of current and upcoming events within our rail operations. This includes information from the area of the network operator as well as information from the environment of the connected seaport terminals.

  • Weather-related delays in train traffic last weekend are still having an impact today and are expected to continue to affect the coming days. The causes include switch malfunctions, e.g. in the Bremen area, and loading delays at the terminals. Work was partially suspended completely at the Port of Hamburg.
  • Due to the weather, rail handling continues to be severely delayed. The EUROKOMBI terminal has once again completely suspended operations. The HHLA terminals are operating with considerable delays: CTA with more than 30 hours, Burchardkai with up to 48 hours.
  • Since January 4, 2026, at 12:12 a.m., the dispatching control system has been in effect in Hamburg. This morning, trains bound for Hamburg continued to be turned away; in some cases, they were already held back at their departure station.
  • In addition, truck handling in the Port of Hamburg continues to be severely restricted. Truck handling has not yet resumed at EUROGATE Hamburg. Handling at the HHLA terminals is only taking place to a very limited extent. As a result, no new slots can be booked during the course of the day: CTT from 5:00 p.m., Burchardkai from 6:00 p.m., and CTA from 7:00 p.m.
  • The current weather forecasts do not predict any improvement. It can therefore be assumed that the restrictions will remain in place for the rest of the week.

Due to the circumstances, delays continue to occur at the seaport and inland terminals. These delays have a significant impact on the stability and punctuality of our network. We are making daily efforts to minimize the impact on your bookings as much as possible. Our scheduling department will continue to inform you of any affected bookings on a case-by-case basis. In order to avoid incorrect tours, please check the availability of the loading units before acceptance inland or at the seaport and take our advice notes and order-related information into account.

  • Long-term construction work between Nuremberg, Regensburg, and Passau from February 6, 2026, to December 15, 2026. During this period, there will be various diversions with different effects. Trains can only run with 20 carriages on the diversion via Salzburg and with 18 carriages on the diversion via Plattling/Landshut. Delays are to be expected due to the longer distance and increased utilization of the alternative routes. Further restrictions cannot yet be fully predicted. We will inform you separately about these. This mainly affects our services to Hungary.

For the area of seaport terminals, we would like to point out that your cooperation as a potential terminal customer is also urgently desired.

With regard to deadlines, please refer to our General Terms and Conditions. Delivery deadlines or fixed dates cannot be guaranteed. These presuppose unhindered transport conditions on rail and road.
