Current Traffic Situation and Important Customer Information

Current Developments in Rail Operations – July 2025 Update No. 10

As a matter of routine, we would like to provide you with an overview of current and upcoming events within our rail operations. This includes information from the area of the network operator as well as information from the environment of the connected seaport terminals.

  • Loading backlog at HHLA Terminal Burchardkai 16 hours. This means that we will no longer be able to place trains whose slots would be this evening, for example, at the terminal and dispatch them before the DEGES blockade.
  • Switch fault at Bremen-Burg, which meant that the line from Bremen to Bremerhaven was closed for several hours from around 13:00 yesterday. Since tonight, only one freight train (from all rail providers) per hour has been able to run on one side of the line. As a result, there are massive backlog effects, with corresponding delays in arrivals at the terminals.
  • Overhead line damage due to yesterday’s storm on the Hamburg Hanover vv. line, near Eschede, near Bienenbüttel, near Scheeßel and near Stubben. Some of the repairs continued until this morning. The affected areas could not be bypassed, and trains were routed past the disrupted sections on one side and using a tube procedure from the early morning.
  • Since 10:19 a.m., the HPA has introduced the dispositive inflow control for Hamburg. This means that the HPA allows or refuses trains to enter the port infrastructure, regardless of the planned slots.
Since 12:43 there has been overhead line damage in Maschen, which means that all trains to Hamburg are now being refused.

There are currently severe delays across our entire network, which cannot be fully compensated for even with the greatest of efforts. It is almost impossible for trains to arrive at their destination terminals on time. As a result, various trains will be canceled.

Our operations department will inform you about the affected bookings on a case-by-case basis.

Due to the circumstances, delays continue to occur at the seaport and inland terminals. These delays have a significant impact on the stability and punctuality of our network. We are making daily efforts to minimize the impact on your bookings as much as possible. Our scheduling department will continue to inform you of any affected bookings on a case-by-case basis. In order to avoid incorrect tours, please check the availability of the loading units before acceptance inland or at the seaport and take our advice notes and order-related information into account.

These events will have an impact on the following shipping days. The DEGES lockdown will have an additional negative impact. Please plan accordingly.

The terminals in Hamburg have already announced that we will not be allowed to load any additional quantities on the trains after the DEGES lockdown. It is also to be expected that the terminals will be directly affected by delays.

For the area of seaport terminals, we would like to point out that your cooperation as a potential terminal customer is also urgently desired.

With regard to delivery schedules, we refer to our General Terms and Conditions.

Please note that fixed delivery dates can only be honoured if transport conditions on rail and road remain unobstructed.

Thank you for your attention. Should you have any questions, our team is happy to assist at any time.
